My obsession with the tennis bracelet began in 2004. A neat row of diamonds clasped together by platinum claws, and a flexible, serpentine-like structure, this jewel drips magnificently from my wrist like nothing I’ve ever worn. It was a surprise gift to self, after a particularly difficult year. We all have them…
Prior to 1987, a row of diamonds set in a bracelet was called an in-line diamond bracelet. Today, we refer to it as a tennis bracelet for a special reason: at the 1987 U.S. Open the very sporty and very very pretty top female tennis player Chris Evert was smashing aces when she realized her bracelet had fallen off. Surprising a thrilled crowd the judge ruled a momentary stop of play, in order to allow Chris Evert to collect her beloved bracelet from the court. Since that day, any in-line diamond bracelet has been referred to as a tennis bracelet.
This sultry July evening, wrists, necks and fingers got dressed in the colour, cut, carat and clarity of all manner diamonds, at the Damas Les Exclusives Everyday Diamonds Event held at the Dubai Mall. Regardless of athletic inclination, or whether they were surviving their own personal year of horrors, the women being adorned by rows and rows of diamonds tonight glowed with good health. Diamonds do that to a gal.
