39 Weeks: Tall Dutchman

The countdown has begun, well and truly. Today being 3rd December marks the 3rd last day of work for me before I finally take to my bedchamber and rest my swollen ankles. Actually, the ankles have remained relatively lean compared to my engorged belly which seems not at all to have dropped. Its still high, right under my boobs and broken ribs in fact (true: the right rib is now fractured and providing me with endless excuses to whine to those polite enough to listen, and for those caught behind my sizeable bum, to endure me shuffling slowly in a forward fashion).

Still, I remain stoic though by 4:45PM today I was near tears. My spine feeling compressed, and these ribs tender, good God what discomfort! And to be certain a shard of bone has been pressing on my internal organs, I was sure to cry if I did not get out of the office immediately. But I did not cry; I held it together, left on time and had Erroll meet me at our pool for a swim. Immersion in water (and damn cold outdoor pool water it was) seems to at least temporarily alleviate the pressure and reduce the swelling of the break.

I blame Erroll, the tall Dutchman who is breeding height and brawn into my petite genetic line. How else to explain the already large Seahorse with the extraordinarily long femur Dr. Christian enjoys measuring each time we are in for a scan? Just check our Erroll’s own femur. This will be one marathon labour…
