Cars

The Middle East is an ideal portal through which car manufacturers can showcase their impressive vehicles to a market hungry for the newest, the most expensive, the blingiest. And the market can afford to pay for them! As such I receive ample opportunity to shoot what really must be seen to be believed.

This Rolls Royce in plated gold was parked in the driveway of a luxurious beachside hotel at Jumeira Beach Residences. The owners are royalty – the Sheikh’s family, probably his princeling son and his crew – driving the few hours from Saudi Arabia to come enjoy the fruits of a much more liberal city like Dubai. This happens often enough – spotting plate number 1 – and figuring out which royal family are here on holidays.

With so much luxury on four wheels peppering the streets of Dubai, classic, prestige, rare and high performance vehicles become the standard sight which we have become accustomed. It’ll be a tough wake up call when we all repatriate to Australia, Philipines, Brazil, wherever and no longer spot the MacLaren or the Bugatti or the gold plated Rolls Royce driving down the road…
