37 Weeks: Vale

Goodbye darling daddy-o. You have written the book on what it is to be a man who leads by example; a husband who takes his office seriously and delivers on his promises; a father who takes charge of the responsibilities he signed up for, and for the grandfather my niece and three nephews took great benefit from knowing personally, privately, and lovingly.

Dad still frisky for mum, till the end. Photo taken in the family front garden 2 months before dad's passing.

Death and new life did not overlap, unfortunately, for grandfather and Seahorse. Just two weeks or so separate dad’s passing to heaven and my baby’ arrival to this mortal life. I suffer from an intense confusion of emotion, and take huge benefit from being surrounded by good friends here in Dubai, albeit being far away from family.

A minor miracle occurred, however, this week, the week dad’s mortal coil was snuffed: dear friend Anne arrived to stay with me from Scotland; I played Bridesmaid to friend Rhiannon’s bride at her wedding; nightly matrimonial events, dinners and get togethers for the Hurst nuptials, and finally Erroll arriving from six days away, just in time to catch my fall.

Heaven is now one star brighter. Vale, dad x
