23-07-16 Visiting the Mirdif Mansours

Saturday 23rd July 2016

Getting from Financial Centre to Uptown Mirdiff is what you’d consider a fair distance to travel especially in public transport, carting a day’s changes of clothing, huge bunch of flowers, tugging around an unruly toddler, all the while it’s reaching 50 degrees Celsius, however it’s a very special household we visit there today: the Mansours. Friend Nadine has produced three sweet, quiet, well-mannered kids who are fast becoming Kingsley’s friends even though he is MUCH rougher and wilder than they are.

Today’s visitor infractions include spilling water on the tiles so that Ava slips and near breaks a leg; bashing Carlos on head with large and heavy bouncing gym apparatus; attempting to wrestle all three Mansour kids simultaneous on the couch with none of them fighting back; literally bellowing all the way to the Mall as Nadine kindly drives us there when it’s time to go.

Yes our little Kingsley is a live wire…and not so little: at a full two years younger than Carlos, Kingsley is just as tall, and heavier than five year old Ava by at least three kilos. Ava and Kingsley share an innocent mutual adoration which both sets of parents have witnessed on previous play dates. Today Ava insisted on feeding Kingsley his bottle of milk, translating to him the movie they were watching in her perfect English, and in return Kingsley snuggled up close with her on the couch. As Kingsley would later tell me in his perfect Greek, he likes Ava ‘very much.’
