Ch. 23: Katya in Dubai

Aussie Visits her Ex-Pat Preggers Pal in Dubai.

That is what today’s news headlines should read. Because indeed it is happening, right now! What a wow moment we had reuniting at Dubai International Airport today, after 9 months apart. In fact, the last time we saw one another was in early November 2012 in Sydney, then a week later in Dubai, when Kathy came to stay, en route to Milano, her new city as its very proud working resident. I was skinny as a rake back then.

Fat and preggers now, Kathy’s mouth fell open when she clapped eyes on me at the airport arrivals hall, and then we hugged and hugged so happy she is for me and Erroll. So how to welcome a dear friend to my adopted country? Treat them to exquisite Arabic cuisine…

Arabic vegetarian feast to welcome my friend Kathy to Dubai

On the menu: falafel, hummus, Baba Ghanoush, pickles, olives, tabouli, chickpeas, flat bread, an array of veges and freshly pressed juices. Doggie bags were packed so much food we ordered…

Kathy did well, staying up till 11PM. Our day we packed with activities: visiting camels and donkeys at the Royal Zaabeel Veterinary, complete with rubbing their noses; long walks in the afternoon, once the searing sun was hidden by the skyscrapers of the city; rooftop pool swims and outdoor showers; calling upon neighbor and friend Ahmed for strong Turkish coffee and chocolate; bumping into pal Lena just returned from a dream vacation in Paris, and finally hitting the streets of our bustling neigbourhood for our evening meal. It was all about exhausting Kathy, and in the process I exhausted myself.

Stuffed, chuffed and delirious. Time for bed x
