02-10-16 Slumdog Dance Off

Sunday 2nd October 2016

While Erroll was stuck at work all day today for Cabin Supervisor training, Kingsley and I dived into some interpretive dancing to the extraordinary tunes from the British Motion Picture Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle. The original score and songs were composed by A. R. Rahman, whose soundtrack won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, and two Academy Awards, one for Best Original Music Score and the other for Best Original Song for “Jai Ho”.

It was to the song “Jai Ho” that we two homebodies got into the spirit of modern India, dancing with the flair of Bollywood stars. We of course dressed for the occasion: me as the calamitous but well meaning heroine; Kingsley as the brooding, long haired troubled hero. Me in a new frock Paris-based pal gave me this week; Kingsley in his Tarzan-inspired Y-fronts and a wide smile.

We rocked the apartment for a solid hour. Then the hero star became thirsty (demanding cold milk) then hungry (two fried eggs please) before succumbing to tiredness…then sleep. It’s how those Slumdog rock gods roll, I guess.
