Kingsley: Cruising

Saturday 2nd August 2014

Cruising around the edges of furniture is a developmental milestone I truly believed Kingsley would reach at 9 or 10 or even 11 months of age. Certainly not now! These past few days our little champ has shown such strength, so much courage, and tenacity to boot: not giving up, and even with wobbly ankles he manages to straighten his legs, back and neck and before you know it, he is upright!

Apart from his fearlessness, the key it seems has been maintaining balance. Throughout our boy’s past few months, he has learned to coordinate his muscles from the top down. First came control over his neck and head, then his shoulders and upper torso. After that, he began to use his arms and his hands with ever-increasing dexterity. Then came the hips, thighs, and knees, and suddenly Kingsley was crawling. Now its his ankles, fledgling quadriceps and hands working in sync to get him cruising.

I am left speechless (well actually I am screeching from joy and encouragement!) racing for the camera while King shows off his mastery; our baby has control over nearly every muscle in his body. All he needs to do now is practice…while I begin baby-proofing the house…
