So sang Shirley Temple in 1935 that classic Koehler, Caesar & Henderson ditty. Fast forward to 2013 and I cannae get its jingle out of my head as I visit Dubai’s rescue animals here at Posh Paws Animal Sanctuary, free range poultry scampering about, emus up ahead…

This animal shelter also operates as a petting farm (much to the thrill of children of all ages) first opening its gates back in April of 2009.

The happy visitor is encouraged to feed, touch, hold and even ride various animals while learning fun facts about each one and how to care for the animals correctly. Current inhabitants include Sloth, Porcupine, Cockatoo, Ponies, Deer, Llamas, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Kinkajou, Ferrets, Goats, Cows, Flamingo, Baboon, Ducks, Emus and Turtles.

Cats and dogs live peacefully among turkeys and cockatoos. Baby goats bleat; macaws screech, tortoises saunter. Food for the animals it is never refused! There is no charge, but a small donation box sits near the front, the money donated helps to pay for food, medical bills and equipment these creatures need.

Each animal seems jolly and most definitely clean. With bellies full and living among fellow fauna in the safest of environments, lovingly attended to by volunteers, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, tortoises, birds, dogs and cats live peacefully in paradise.
