19-09-16 Mummas & Pappas

Monday 19th September 2016

Being a bestie to your preggo girlfriend means I get to behave like a true geek baby bump stalker friend: meeting her at any cafe most anywhere just to ask after her little man who is now 23 weeks along and growing at a clip; bringing her muesli bars and natural confectionary (mmmm, snakes!) “just to keep in your bag when your blood sugars drop”; giving impromptu preloved gifts from my son King to her unborn little Princeling; and like today, accompaning her to a New Mummies Monday Morning Tea at one of our favourite Dubai baby stores, Mummas & Pappas.

Waking early was harsh (and yes, I consider 8:30am early), but walking that half an hour to the Dubai Mall in the mild Autumn weather of this morning was invigorating. All in order to meet up with Rio (and her bump) at 10am for a couple of hours of eating, playing and listening to an experienced, entertaining midwife who was telling it like it is to our group of 35 or so mums and mums-to-be.

Toddlers were well looked after at the store while us mums stuffed our faces with the fruit salad and honey yoghurt cups. The talk was informative and pitched perfectly to the demographic, however the highlight for me (and one other particular fellow mum of a boy toddler) was when we caught the boys, after initial power squabbles, collaborate, make a team, and build something together, which neither of them singlehandedly were able to accomplish!

At that point I was done; game over. I could not have been more proud of Kingsley if I tried. And all so worth it being a preggo-friend geek bestie accompanying Rio to this Mummas & Pappas so early in the morning.
