Kingsley: Tastes

6th May 2014

I have a son who will be 5 months tomorrow. He has been fed breastmilk exclusively but every now and again I’ll let him lick the sweet juice from a sliced grape or suck on a wedge of melon, taste a hunk of roast chicken breast, even slurp on a stalk of steamed asparagus. He loves these exotic taste sensations and his eyes grow large when he gets that first hit of something other than my breast milk (the poor love!).

Today, for example, the child tasted drinking labaan (Arabia’s style of drinking yoghurt). I gave him a lick of this, my favourite drink while we were shopping. He went wild about it! Carried on and thrashed about for MORE!! In the evening a well meaning local guy spoon-fed Kingsley some mashed potato.

Truly, I have never seen a happier child than when Kingsley is allowed to taste food. Oh wait; yes I have…when he is cradled by his Jiajia Dora; put to sleep being gently rocked and patted after a hard day’s play.
