January 2016
Some thirty five years ago, this loin cloth was being worn by Erroll as he played in the backyard of the family Californian bungalow. In the time that has passed since then, it has been carefully stored in a trunk which has traveled from California to Brisbane, to Sydney and now sits in Oma Tina’s spare bedroom in Bangalow.
When Kingsley and I first visited her in March 2014, Tina gave me a case full of Erroll’s baby clothes, all of which I have dressed Kingsley in over the past two years. This last item – the Tarzan loin cloth – only just fits him now, and is the boy’s preferred attire when lounging sloth fully about the house. Of course it is…

Kingsley’s Tarzan loin cloth is a 35 years old hand-me-down
