22-10-16 Nijmegen Holland

Saturday 22rd October 2016

The Hartleys are visiting Holland, home of Erroll’s forebears from his mum’s side. For eight gloriously crisp days we stay in a small village on the forest periphery, three kilometers from Nijmegen, the oldest city in the country. Standing on the Valkhof, where once the Romans looked out over the Waal river and the land of the Batavians, we learn that history is treasured in beautiful historic buildings, parks and museums. The Rijk van Nijmegen – a forest we will encounter tomorrow – shows us the most beautiful natural landscapes that Holland has to offer. On the one hand, the riverine landscape between the Meuse and the Waal rivers, on the other, the fascinating hill country.

This is our family holiday…
