35 Weeks: Disco Camel

When the Seahorse is born, and its eyes finally can focus, I shall introduce it to the myriad camels in our neighborhood. Just across the road from our tower, very near Sheikh Mohammed’s Zabeel Palace is the royal veterinary and stables where a caravan of camels reside. These dromedaries are gloriously clean and very friendly.

In the early days of my pregnancy I would wander over to their stables and sing to them. In response one or two camels would wander up to the fence, push their soft snout toward my hand and I would scratch and rub their pappy lips.

I am sure Seahorse shall recognize my off-pitch melodies once born, the poor darling.

Yet even closer to home is Disco Camel. She is made of glass, reflects the sunlight and is a scale model of the real deal. Disco Camel I visited today when Seahorse turned 35 week. Just as the camel carries a heavy load up top, I too carry this 15 kilo weight, but out the front. Disco Camel, I feel your pain; you and I are one and the same.
