The Westin Mina Seyahi – Dubai

We were not married, but our love was sealed and with my very first trip to Dubai, Mr. H swept me away to a beach holiday resort in the middle of Dubai situated beside the warm salty waters of the Arabian Gulf. It was here at The Westin Mina Seyahi that a true understanding of modern Middle East hospitality came me, and an inkling that Mr. H would one day ask me to be his very own Mrs. H!

Mina Seyahi (Al Mina Al Seyahi) refers to an area of Dubai, and translates literally into “Port of Travellers”. The Mina Seyahi area covers a part of Jumeirah Beach and includes the Dubai International Marine club, which was formed in 1986 to promote tourism and water sports, on instruction of His Highness Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the current Chairman of Emirates Airlines.

As an aside, get a load of His Highness’s pedigree: He is the son of former Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, the brother of former Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the uncle of the current Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (despite being nine years younger than him).

Impressive neoclassical architecture fills this 5* resort with imposing restaurants, foyers and stairways. The sprawling landscaped grounds guide the guest to the beach but nothing quite beats the Westin Mina Seyahi bedroom suites: all heavenly beds, pillow menus and rainforest showers. Deluxe!
