Day 6: Acupuncture Together

Saturday 20th February 2016

There was simply nowhere to leave him. And my scheduled acupuncture session I did not want to postpone. Kingsley was accompanying me to Healthcare city today and I would pray that one of the staff there would show benevolence by entertaining him for long enough that I could benefit from my prepaid half hour of therapy at Dr. Laing’s hands.

Those prayers were answered in the form of a sweet clinic nurse with an impressive repertoire of nursery rhymes and a preference for attending to toddlers rather than the sick and infirm. Marychris stayed with Kingsley in the reception while I got jabbed, singing to him and willingly being shown all of Kingsley’s cars one by one (clever mum for once, bringing with us his favorite toys). All I could hear from my treatment room was upbeat chat and recitals of the alphabet.

As usual, Dr. Liang at precisely half an hour after inserting the needles comes back in to the treatment room, turns up the lights, fiddles with the needles (those sensations are weird, no doubt about it), removes them, covers my exposed skin with thick towels and urges me to relax for a few more minutes. Happy baby voices out in the reception allow me to indeed relax a little longer. For the child had been well attended. A successful first! Together at acupuncture!!
