39 Weeks: Squats

I tip my hat off to those brave women in less developed countries who take to squatting in the field to give birth. Well, according to our doctor, there’s something to it: squatting actually speeds labour because it increases the pelvic opening, providing more room for baby to descend.  OUCH!!!! I am so scared; and I just cannot hide it, for bebe Hartley is already big.

Today we visited Dr. Jozse and he conducted his usual measurements. Results? Seahorse at 39 weeks gestation is already 8.4 pounds (just under 4kg).

That’ll be some mammoth squat session I’ll have to endure to get our big bebe out. So as for squatting, when to begin? I have already started practicing them, each day in fact, in the lift when in descent to our tower’s foyer from level 36 where ma and pa Hartley reside. 36 floors to get as low as I can go, arms in a prayer position and elbows providing  resistance to the inside of the knees and pushing my frogs legs OUT.

Who knows? Perhaps I’ll be a stronger squatter when the time comes (may it be in the hospital, not in the field).
