30 Days of Gratefulness-Ramadan Pt I: Belonging

On a summer trip to the mainland of Greece back in 2011, I took the road less travelled, and found myself in a glorious seaside port located on the southeast tip of the prefecture of Attica. Landing on the doorstep of Lavrio in the golden hours before sunset had me bewitched. Not so much because of its pretty seaside location, nor because of the beauty of its natural harbour. It was as a result of being welcomed into town with such heartfelt earnestness by a cadre of local school kids that it gave me pause to consider what it means to belong…

We all understand that feeling when we belong to something good and meaningful. To encounter harmony when with friends, mates, close buddies and allies; that connection in communication with your band of misfits that complements your life and gives rise to feelings of self-esteem and value-sharing. How special to wear that invisible badge!

Not many of theses badges were produced in the foundry of friendship. And those that were handed out are forged from the crown elements of trust, acceptance, justice, mercy, affection and forgiveness. When you find yourself belonging, well, just give it all you’ve got.

About Alice

I run, I jump, I sing, I dance. Whether climbing trees, walls or stairs I do it at a clip. When out, my date is always Trusty Nikon (who never lets me down in the attire stakes; so smart in his black, with a pop of red!). Where does it lead, this love affair of mine? Well, its lead me to Dubai, via the matrimonial aisle, thanks to a gorgeous husband who whisked me from Coogee beach, Sydney into the Arabian Peninsula - to my new home, Dubai. I am a freelance writer and photographer and my wish is to snap away, to scribe and to share it all with you. Enjoy.
