Holding a Posy

This is the face of a blissed-out bride. Completely at ease, among her friends, feeling beautiful and loved, of course that magical blossoms clutched to her chest and not to be let go, till she says “I Do!”

The ancient Greeks are credited with the first recorded use of wedding flowers. Bridal bouquets were originally formed from interwoven garlands and wreaths which were placed on the heads of both bride and groom. Herbs such as Rosemary and Marjoram were common in the bridal crowns of Greek brides.

The Meaning of Herbs in a Bridal Bouquet

Herbs were believed to have magical powers to ward off evil spirits and were used to protect the future of the bridal couple. Dill was the herb of lust and a bride would only lust after her husband if she carried Dill and garlic together. Sage was the herb of wisdom and the bride who carried Sage and garlic together was believed to learn goodness and gather great wisdom.

The modern bride can choose whichever pretty bloom, bulb or blossom she wishes to convey her deepest feelings for how she is travelling along the path to matrimonial heaven. Here, this bride carries the traditional wedding flower – the rose.

About Alice

I run, I jump, I sing, I dance. Whether climbing trees, walls or stairs I do it at a clip. When out, my date is always Trusty Nikon (who never lets me down in the attire stakes; so smart in his black, with a pop of red!). Where does it lead, this love affair of mine? Well, its lead me to Dubai, via the matrimonial aisle, thanks to a gorgeous husband who whisked me from Coogee beach, Sydney into the Arabian Peninsula - to my new home, Dubai. I am a freelance writer and photographer and my wish is to snap away, to scribe and to share it all with you. Enjoy.
