1st April 2013 8PM
My boys were such troopers today, spending the day together while I went off to work, back to the office after my wonderful maternity leave. By the time I am reunited with them, at exactly 5:40PM, both lads are absolutely shattered from the experience of hanging out together. Kingsley is recovering nicely however from some serious fits of crying and Erroll is looking harrowed from a day spent at wits end attempting to entertain our precious mite. In fact, he was spotted by no less than three mutual friends today walking up and down Sheikh Zayed Road in the throes of rocking Kingsley to sleep either in his buggy or in the baby carrier, trying to soothe the boy from yet another mysterious bout of screaming.
Meanwhile, by 9AM I was behind my desk and very quickly that desk was covered in documents, contracts and files. Back to my job after four months away, working 9 to 5, pumping milk in the Prayer Room at 11:30AM then breast feeding Kingsley at PM in a brand new outfit no less! I felt at home with my excellent legal team who welcomed me back with hugs and kisses and embrace the weird world of a corporate lactating mother.
But it is this delight that my eyes and heart long for each minute of the day, despite the pay cheque, decent colleagues and the high heels…
