Kingsley: 17-2-14 Sling

I’ve come over all African-Queen. Its a baby sling that has caused this transformation. For the first nine weeks of Kingsley’s life I was carrying him in a baby carrier out front of me, like marsupials do. Now, I channel native African women of Addis Ababa taking their two hour journey on foot to the well to fetch water, newborn hoisted and draped in meters of fabric, pressed close to the breast…

What an immediate impact this sling has had on my life. In addition to making it easier to nurture and love, as well as bond and breastfeed, this sling allows me to continue to write my emails, get on Facebook (I know, I am a shocker) and conduct post production on my photographs.

Since giving birth I have become a firm believer in the goodness attachment parenting brings to both mother and baby. Attachment parenting proponents advise maximum skin-to-skin touching. This sling provides the means for me to give a continuous nurturing touch to young Kingsley (although I wont be going nude under the sling any time soon; perish the thought!!)
