Seared tuna steak. That’s what I am feeling for today for lunch. Seared tuna. Done rare. Yes, rare tuna steak. Lets see just how delicious and satisfying a meal consisting of tuna and salad greens can be when ordered in one of the very few restaurants open for lunch in Dubai during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Four girlfriends and I beat a path to an Aussie pub located on one of the “fronds” of The Palm, Jumiera. Two are pregnant, all are non-fasting, and we are all most certainly ready to feast leisurely on what we hope will prove to our tastebuds as ambrosial pub-grub.
Now you must know, I have not the inclination to cook, but have always enjoyed food that is fresh and light, that boosts my energy rather than absorbing it. At home, nourishment must be simple and virtually instant. In these recent adult years I leave behind the stodge of carbohydrate-based dishes, opting now for the simplicity of seafood. In a word, I discovered fish.
Lunchtime to me is a time when the senses are revived: spirited conversations occur over languid lunches among dear friends and new ones, following shopping and the necessary dash of domestic flurries. And today’s platter of tuna steak seared and peppery, piled high on green leaves and tender shoots of asparagus, served to me at that one open-for-lunch pub on The Palm, did as it was meant to: resuscitate my flagging stamina and power a repartee that leaves five girls already planning their next “lunch”.
