Kingsley: Father and Son

2nd July 2014

The two Hartleys men took to the pool this afternoon and all I wanted to do was document their time together (after doing my laps of course). Having swum everyday during my pregnancy (from four months gestation, when I got the go ahead by Dr. Munira) I knew Kingsley would be a natural in the water. His father swam at school and to date is a champion swimmer at freestyle and butterfly. So swimming is in our boy’s veins, but at any rate Erroll today made splash-time loads of fun for Kingsley and by doing so helped boost his confidence in the water.

What I saw at the pool this afternoon: father and son totally loved up.

When Erroll got in the pool he held King close and kept eye contact with him. Next, Erroll extended his arms and swished the baby around. I heard lots of conversation between them as well as “bravo” and “well done son!” – praise praise praise. He sat our son on the side of the pool and sang songs, would lift him up and splash him down into the water. Laughter all round (phew; no histrionics).

At the tail end of the swim session, Erroll lay the boy on his back with his head resting on his dad’s shoulder. This encouraged our son to kick his legs.

After an open air shower it is nudie time (get some fresh air onto Kingsley’s twig & berries) then cuddles with dad, and then the inevitable: milk. Soon after the lads hung out and explore the pool surroundings. Just father and son…
