Kingsley: Icecream

7pm, 7th April 2014

On turning four months of age, it was time to celebrate: our boy got to taste something very special for the occasion, and finally something other than my milkshakes: a Bulla ice-cream. Just a lick, mind. Well, not even a lick. He just kind of inadvertently pressed his pout to it as he lurched toward its bright colour. The chilly pop sensation was placed to his lips and Kingsley with seemingly innate knowledge of the power of junk food, knew to launch at it with gusto.

In Australia all the advice is that we shouldn’t start infants on solid food until 6 months.  But a bit of a taste of some plain foods (eg rice cereal, stewed fruits) before then won’t hurt. Most would agree however to avoid giving ice cream or any other really sweet food for as long as possible, so they get used to healthy tastes first.

Like bee to honey: Kingsley to an icecream

But to tell the truth, I shall just enjoy my baby and do away with strict guidelines. At four months old, I today allowed Kingsley taste (term used loosely) ice cream.

You see, if I don’t allow him to, it’ll be an aunt or a grandma that gets to experience that first goofy face…
