When Kingsley turned five weeks of age, Erroll travelled to Phuket for a fortnight to train at Tiger Muay Thai. Kingsley and I were to fly ourselves to Australia the very day Erroll flew to Thailand, the plan being that we remain there for three months, at our family home.
However our Australia trip would be postponed as Kingsley’s travel documents did not come through in time. As such, Mum came to us in Dubai and here remained cooking and being a great help till Erroll came home fit and strapping after arduous thrice daily sessions honing the art of Muay Thai.
Unbeknownst to me, secretly in between training sessions Erroll visited a tattoo artist and had his great happiness at becoming a father to baby Kingsley rendered on his left upper arm. I only found out the day Erroll returned to us at the beginning of February just how completely taken by his infant son my husband was – it was written for all to see.
Newer fathers just like Erroll are turning to the ancient art of tattooing to show the entire world just how much they love their kids. For as Erroll explained as he rolled up his sleeve to reveal the boy’s name and birth date in a curlicue font, there is no better canvas than the skin upon his very own bones when it comes time to paint this daddy’s love for his son.
