Third Trimester

This is the final stretch: I have now, officially, entered into the countdown trimester – the 3rd one. This means therefore that 3 months of pregnancy are ahead of me. 28 weeks today! Big round belly, sore back, incessant hunger, happy to stuff my face. All in the name of nourishing the Seahorse of course! And I celebrate this important milestone at my parent’s home in Sydney Australia: the scene almost two years ago, of my 40th birthday party. Only now, I no longer resemble a second rate bikini model emerging from a carnival blow up pool…

The wee Seahorse and its orbital home, my belly, has taken the place of any wish to be wearing rhinestone onesies. Now I am comfortable in pyjamas and stretchy tops.

The third trimester bids me a warm welcome! I take to reading trashy magazine, drinking chamomile tea, looking through photo albums. I also take heart with the knowledge that being in the third trimester means much of our Seahorse’s anatomy is ready to go: little lungs are forming and the preparations are in place for successful breathing outside of my uterus. My job is to nourish the Seahorse, for we want its size to grow and for his brain to get smarter, and other than that, the lill fighter just needs a few more finishing touches.
