20-08-18 Lyon Day 6

Monday 20th August 2018

We don’t want to leave Lyon. Both Kingsley and I are fixed on the idea of extending our holiday here till Saturday and even go so far this morning before breakfast to secure our room and board with reception. But the Commonwealth Bank thinks better and won’t proceed with a change of flights on Transavia. Believe me I tried many times.

So its today and tomorow and we intend on packing alot in. Today we hit the cultural road (old renaissance Vieux Lyon), the spiritual path (Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvier) the geographic way (stroll the confluence of Lyon’s two rivers) and glorious squares (Bellecour).

These were my wishes and Kingsley very graciously accompanied me. The child however wanted nothing but playgrounds (aire de jeux), carousels and swimming pools. Centre Nautique got our €8 entry fee again and Kingsley got to slide down the giant water slides all by himself.

What a stoic little traveller Kingsley is turning into: walking / playing / swimming 8 hours straight. That’s right: immediately after breakfast we’re off into the old parts of Lyon…then by foot explore its high peaks, cathedrals, gardens, churches, squares (so many) and rivers (two: the mighty Rhöne & serene Saöne).

But he received his just rewards for suffering my walking tour: all afternoon swims then movies in bed for a late arvo treat then icecream at the park across the road from Mama Shelter…and we get to do it all again tomorrow.
