18-08-17 Al Ghubaiba & Al Shindagha

Friday 18th August 2017

Our cultural experience of Old Dubai continues! Today we take the metro to Al Ghubaiba which to our surprise deposits us onto the oldest part of Dubai – the Creek where its mouth feeds into the Arabian Gulf. Here we paid our 1 Dirham in order to secure a birth on one of the magical little motorized abras which criss-cross the Creek non stop from dusk till dawn. Its 1 Dirham each way. Cheap! Fun!! So on we pop on the Bur Dubai side, and out we get on the Deira side.

Kingsley was somewhat of a child superstar today. At least five times I am asked by a stranger for a photo of him. They can’t comprehend his look, his dress, his sunnies, that hair! I’m kind of glad because embarrassingly I have only 1 Dirham and 50 fils in my purse; not enough to get back to the Bur Dubai side where I have stored the buggy. And without resorting to busking for money, I allow the nice abra-operator to take a family photo of us all, for the discounted one-way fare of 50 fils. Yay! We can get back to Bur Dubai!
