Baby Ruth

Tuesday 5th July 2016

Literally two years ago two babies met at nursery and become buddies. They crawled around together, hauling themselves up eventually to cruise along walls and boy boxes, then learned to walk, finally enjoying playing chase around the colourful rooms of Hummingbird at DIFC.

Back then I knew that these kids would remain pals because Kingsley just couldn’t get enough of Baby Ruth and wanted to be near her. Us mums became mates too; Fran and I bumping into each other at reception either morning or evening after work, depending on which parent did the school run. Ultimately I would pull Kingsley out of Hummingbird when I stopped working, but the mum friendship remained strong.

Fast forward to today’s play date at Ruth’s, the start was not auspicious (Kingsley shoved Ruth the minute we walked in) and the ending was all tears, snot, wet cheeks and hysterical crying (Ruth not ready to get out of the bath). However the hours spent together in between were magical! Not only did they read together, but they played puzzles, trains, jumped on Fran’s big bed, rode cars around the apartment, then ate dinner, followed by icecream and even had a bath together. We will never forget how Kingsley wee’d Ruth the instant his little body hit the water. Ruth was unfazed. Fran and I fell about laughing.

Till next we meet, baby Ruth, Kingsley loves you!
