Three years ago I was gifted by a new friend at the time, seven pretty crystals bound together and pristinely maintained in a soft lilac pouch. Unaware of what these precious stones represented, my reaction to the gift was one of great appreciation but no real comprehension at what the gift’s meaning was.
I hugged my friend in thanks, transferred the crystals from pouch to my palms and jumbled them about. Smooth, cool, slippery: these coloured stones I very much liked immediately. But why I was drawn to them would only surface with a little research and some self-reflection…

Most of you have probably heard of Chakras, but at the time I had not. Prior to receiving my crystals, I knew nothing about them except that they are some sort of energy portals. Now I have come to realize how important they are.
The word Chakra originates in Hindu texts and means “wheel” or “turning”. Chakras are circular vortexes of energy, vertically aligned in the center of the body close to the spine, starting from the tail bone and ending at the crown of the head. Through our Chakras we transmit and receive physical, spiritual and emotional energy. Moreover they manifest in our physical state. The ones located at the lower part of the body are our instinctual side and the higher ones our mental side…
Chakras Vertically Aligned within the Body
Each Chakra is associated with a particular area of the body (and therefore disease, distress or illness) and a colour of the spectrum. Ideally they should be clear, balanced and vitalized for optimal and all-round well being. The coloured stones in my pouch are to be used for clearing, revitalizing and healing these Chakra centres, I would soon learn.
My research also taught me that these 7 Chakras closely correspond with the 7 glands of the Endocrine System. Their energy flow governs the functioning of the glandular system to bring the crucial parts of the human constitution into cooperation, enabling normal psychological and physiological responses.
Our well being is not purely a physical issue; research need not tell me this. Body, mind and spirit: none of these areas function entirely alone; each has an effect upon the other.
7 Chakra Crystals
As I became familiar with stones, meditation and the energies in and around me I could incorporate this awareness into the various aspects of my life: the physical, mental, and spiritual consciousness making me whole. What a gift to bestow upon a friend! Three years on, the wee lilac pouch is gone but my crystals I keep close, and I still give thanks.
