A Fishy Tale

For many nights in a row I have been experiencing the taste of the deep. The deep blue sea that is: open-flamed, grilled-under-the-stars, crispy-skinned and moist, flaky fillets of fish. What else to dine on when vacationing on The Maldives? I am hooked (he he)…

After tourism, fishing is the Maldive’s second main industry. And what variety and abundance of aquatic life and species of fish can claim to have a home there among the atolls! Tuna, groupers, dolphin fish, barracuda, rainbow runner, trevally and the delightfully named squirrelfish.

Best of all, Maldivians fish sustainably. Tuna for example is caught via three methods: pole & line, handline and longline. These traditional approaches to fishing have contributed to the sustainability of edible sealife in this glorious Indian Ocean archipelago comprising 26 atolls which safely harbour 1,192 islets. Fishy Paradise!

About Alice

I run, I jump, I sing, I dance. Whether climbing trees, walls or stairs I do it at a clip. When out, my date is always Trusty Nikon (who never lets me down in the attire stakes; so smart in his black, with a pop of red!). Where does it lead, this love affair of mine? Well, its lead me to Dubai, via the matrimonial aisle, thanks to a gorgeous husband who whisked me from Coogee beach, Sydney into the Arabian Peninsula - to my new home, Dubai. I am a freelance writer and photographer and my wish is to snap away, to scribe and to share it all with you. Enjoy.
